Medicare Rebates
Medicare provides you access to a rebate for up to 10 consultations per calendar year, however you will require a Mental Health Treatment Plan and referral from your GP which must be bought to the initial session to claim the rebate.
You can receive a Medicare rebate direct to your bank account, and private health insurance rebates can be accessed if you have the appropriate cover (this is to be discussed with your provider).
When going to get a referral and MHCP, GPs prefer you to schedule a double appointment to better understand your concerns and complete a MHCP. More information about Mental Health Treatment Plans can be found here.
Psychiatrists and Paediatricians can refer to psychologists for Medicare services. In such cases a Mental Health Care Plan is not required; however, you do require a referral letter.
